Digenean metacercariae parasites as natural tags of habitat use by 0-group common sole Solea solea in nearshore coastal areas: A case study in the embayed system of the Pertuis Charentais (Bay of Biscay, France) ArchiMer
Durieux, Eric; Begout, Marie-laure; Pinet, Patrick; Sasal, Pierre.
This study focused on the spatio-temporal variation in the host-parasite system, 0-group sole-digenean metacercariae, in nearshore coastal areas at relatively small spatial scale. 0-group soles were sampled using a standard beam trawl in April, May, June, August and October 2005 at nine different sites in the Pertuis Charentais area (Bay of Biscay, France). Sole density, size, Fulton's condition factor K and digenean metacercariae communities were analysed. 0-group sole concentrated in shallow and muddy areas where they accumulated digenean metacercariae. Parasite communities displayed strong spatial patterns tightly linked to the distribution of the first intermediate mollusc hosts. These parasitological data suggest that 0-group sole during their first...

Helminthic Parasites of Chickens (Gallus Domesticus) in Different Regions of São Paulo State, Brazil Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Silva,GS da; Romera,DM; Fonseca,LEC; Meireles,MV.
Abstract The Brazilian poultry industry is an outstanding national and international agribusiness sector. Among the Brazilian states, São Paulo is the largest producer of commercial eggs and the fourth largest producer and exporter of chicken meat. Alternatively, semi-intensive and/or organic poultry production have also obtained a significant share of the domestic market as a result of consumer demand. Helminths affect the performance of the birds, causing significant direct or indirect losses. The objective of the present study was to identify the main helminth species present in chickens reared in 17 municipalities of the state of São Paulo. In total, 359 adult birds were investigated. The birds were reared in different housing systems and were obtained...

Latitudinal influence on gametogenesis and host–parasite ecology in a marine bivalve model ArchiMer
Mahony, Kate E.; Lynch, Sharon A.; Egerton, Sian; Laffan, Rebecca E.; Correia, Simão; De Montaudouin, Xavier; Mesmer‐dudons, Nathalie; Freitas, Rosa; Culloty, Sarah C..
Reproduction and parasites have significant impacts on marine animal populations globally. This study aimed to investigate the associative effects of host reproduction and a host–parasite interplay on a marine bivalve, along a geographic gradient of latitude. Cockles Cerastoderma edule were sampled from five European sites (54°N to 40°N), between April 2018 and October 2019. A histological survey provided data on trematode (metacercaria and sporocyst life stages), prevalence, and cockle stage of gametogenesis to assess the influence of a latitudinal gradient on both interplays. Sex ratios at the northernmost sites were skewed toward females, and spawning size was reduced at the lower latitudes. Trematode infection did not follow a latitudinal gradient....

Metacercariae of Eumegacetes medioximus (Digenea: Eumegacetidae) in larvae of Odonata from Brazil Biota Neotropica
Pinto,Hudson Alves; Melo,Alan Lane de.
During studies on the participation of larval Odonata in the life cycle of trematodes carried out at the Pampulha reservoir, Belo Horizonte, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, between May and September 2011, dragonfly larvae, Orthemis discolor (Burmeister, 1839) and Perithemis mooma Kirby, 1889, were found harboring metacercariae identified as Eumegacetes medioximusBraun, 1901. This is the first report and morphological description of metacercariae of E. medioximus in the Neotropical region.

Opisthorchis felineus in cat: case report Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Oliveira,P.; Pires,M.A.; Rodrigues,P.; Ginja,M.; Pires,M.J.; Pires,I.; Cardoso,L.; Antunes,L.; Rodrigues,M..

Spatial variability in digenean metacercariae infection of 0-group common sole Solea solea among nurseries along the French Atlantic coast ArchiMer
Durieux, Eric; Begout, Marie-laure; Sasal, Pierre.
We sampled 0-group sole juveniles (N = 174) in September and October 2003 in 9 major nurseries located along the French Atlantic coast (English Channel and Bay of Biscay). 0-group sole were infected with 3 genera of digenean metacercariae, Timoniella spp. (Acanthostomidae), Prosorhynchus crucibulum and Prosorhynchus sp. A (Bucephalidae), Podocotyle sp. (Opecoelidae), and an unidentified species of Digenea. Parasite infection levels in the English Channel nurseries were lower, and the community composition was different from Bay of Biscay nurseries. We hypothesize that the difference between geographic areas was due to differences in first intermediate host communities and, to a lesser extent, because of lower temperatures in the English Channel compared to...
